Ecuador – Quilotoa Loop

Ecuador4-12

Ecuador’s so-called Quilotoa Loop is a circuit of small towns in the Andes made famous by the Quilotoa volcano and crater lake. We found The Black Sheep Inn in Chugchilán as our base – and it definitely belongs to our top 5 list! This eco friendly lodge is situated on a slope that overlooks the Rio Toachi Canyon. Many day hikes leave from their front door to explore the surrounding Andes. The food (mostly from their organic garden) & staff was absolutely amazing. I loved to hang out in their beautiful yoga studio or napping in the hammocks after a day hike.

Lake Quilotoa

is a beautiful volcanic crater lake located at 3’800 meters (12,400 feet). It’s emerald water spans two kilometers. Local legend claims it is connected to the ocean and is therefore salty and sulfuric and has no bottom?!
